With the introduction of the all-new Sentra SE-R and the Sentra SE-R Spec V, last year, Nissan returned to an arena it helped establish more than 15 years before – the affordable, high performance “sport compact” car. For the 2008 model year, the latest duo of SE-R models offer more power, more performance, and more technology than any SE-R that has gone before.
Power and Performance
The SE-R model features Nissan’s refined QR25DE 4-cylinder engine rated at 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft. of torque, matched with the Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with paddle shifter for smooth, sporty performance. The 6-speed manual-equipped Sentra SE-R Spec V is powered by a high-output version of the QR25DE engine with top-end engine modifications that help it achieve 200 horsepower and 180 lb-ft. of torque. Also contributing to the Spec V’s outstanding performance is a unique suspension tuning, larger diameter brakes, and an optional Helical Limited Slip Differential.
Body and Styling
Inside, the cockpit of both models are a number of unique SE-R styling features, including sport bucket front seats with red seat stitching and embroidered SE-R seatback logos, aluminum foot pedal pads, a leather-appointed steering wheel, and an additional two-gauge meter pack featuring oil pressure and acceleration/deceleration g-force gauges. Optional features include a 340-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system, factory installed satellite radio, and Nissan’s intelligent key keyless entry system
Safety Features
Standard safety features for the Sentra SE-R include an advanced air bag system (AABS) with dual stage front airbags and an occupant classification system for the front passenger seat, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags (for front and rear outboard occupant head protection), front seat active head restraints, and a Zone Body construction.
