1. Frida Taqueria

This restaurant serves a variety of authentic Mexican dishes inspired by the spirit of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Frida Taqueria has an extensive menu of traditional favorites like chimichangas, quesadillas, burritos, and tacos. For each selection, you can choose either beef tongue, grilled chicken, marinated pork (pastor), shredded pork (carnitas), chorizo, ground beef (picadillo), shredded chicken (pollo), or steak (carne asada).
Frida Taqueria is located at 94-307 Farrington Hwy. It’s open for dine-in service and take-out from Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., so stop by for lunch or an early dinner when you’re in the neighborhood.

2. Alejandro’s Mexican Food

Located less than 10 minutes from Waipahu in the Pearl City Shopping Center. Alejandro’s offers authentic Mexican recipes with your choice of carne asada, chicken, beef, or carnitas. The menu features taco combo plates, bowls, nachos, and more. You can also order your burrito “wet,” or smothered in red enchilada sauce. Alejandro’s has both a vegetarian menu and a kids’ menu.
The friendly staff members always try to make guests feel like they’re part of the family. Alejandro’s is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. It’s located at 850 Kamehameha Hwy.

3. El Charro Mexicano Restaurant

This go-to Mexican spot is just 5 miles from Waipahu in Aiea. El Charro has been serving homestyle recipes for more than 10 years, with an emphasis on quality ingredients. We love visiting often since this restaurant has such great daily specials. Favorites from the appetizer menu include garlic shrimp, ceviche, street tacos, and flautas. For lunch and dinner, you’ll find classic meal plates with rice and beans, vegetarian dishes, a la carte items, and more.
El Charro is open during the week from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for dinner (9:30 p.m. on Friday). The restaurant is also open Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. It’s located at 99-115 Aiea Heights Dr.

4. Taqueria El Ranchero

This restaurant showcases homemade dishes like the ones you’d find at a taqueria in Mexico. We especially love the fresh-made chips and salsa. Taqueria El Ranchero is located about 6 miles from Waipahu in Kapolei, at 91-5431 Kapolei Pkwy. They’re open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.
